GINNY MEERMAN, MRS. MARYLAND UNITED STATES 2009
On May 24th, 2009 one dream came true for Ginny Meerman…amist the clapping, whistling and cheering of her family and friends, she was crowned Mrs. Maryland United States 2009!!
Ginny is the quintessential Marylander…she was born in Bethesda, was raised and attended school in Rockville, Hyattsville and Glenn Dale, and today, with Chris, her husband of 22 years, lives in Edgewater where they’ve raised four children and a bevy of “fur and feather” babies…she loves the Free State and will most happily share tidbits (and some not so well-known facts) about “her” America in Miniature to anyone with an ear to listen!
Ginny is an internationally published author and a successful entrepreneur who owns and runs two businesses: Special Spaces (an interior decorating company) and MidAtlantic Perfect Pageants, LLC. Her most valued job is that of Co-Director of the Meerman Family, a “career” that has afforded her the opportunity for the most happiness one could ever hope for in life.
Ginny approaches each day with a “what can I do for someone today” mindset. She is considered one of the nation’s foremost advocates and volunteers, dedicating much of her adult life to helping others; making it her life’s mission to being the catalyst that brings a positive difference to the lives of the citizens of the State of Maryland and people across the country. She has received numerous meritorious awards and recognition over the past 20 years for her work as a child protection & rights advocate, an arbitrator for the working poor & homeless, a mentor for sexually abused teen-aged girls & women of domestic violence, as well as representing women with heart disease. She organizes several annual fundraising events to benefit the underserved citizens of Maryland and has appeared on local public television, radio and has been featured in women’s magazines and newsprint speaking to the issues surrounding the homeless and hungry. She founded and is the Executive Director of “Friends of FoodLink” (a food rescue non-profit), as well as is a board member of several non-profit organizations in Maryland and the United States Virgin Islands.
Dedication and the unequivocal commitment to one another, has provided Ginny and Chris the greatest opportunities to make a difference – as a team – in the lives of many. Their enduring relationship serves as a testament to the power of mutual love and respect is the foundation of Ginny’s successes in the community and state.
“When I was crowned Mrs. Maryland, I was happy because WE did it. Together, Chris and I saw one of my dreams come true. Whatever I do in life, Chris is a part of it…as am I with him. Because of his support, I will not only be the best Mrs. Maryland I can be, but will also go to Las Vegas in July to speak to the hearts of the judges, and hopefully fulfill an even greater dream…to be Mrs. United States 2009 and bring that national crown home to the State of Maryland!”
